Certis Europe defines Biorationals as

“registered plant protection products

generally derived from the natural environment, offering improved benefits

for plants, people and the planet, which are increasingly important factors

for Integrated Crop Production to satisfy requirements of the value chain

and consumers.”

The biologicals market, with an annual growth rate in recent years of around

15%, is recognised as the fastest growing crop protection segment in Europe.

Given political drivers such as the EU Green Deal and its Farm to Fork and

Biodiversity strategies, as well as national policies aiming to reduce pesticide

usage, it is expected to maintain a similar level of growth going forward and

could more than double its share of the overall market value by 2030.

Certis Europe has for many years focused on expanding and greening its

product portfolio using science-based research to deliver technically sound,

sustainable and economically viable solutions in support of growers and

for the benefit of consumers. Already very much in tune with the new EU

strategies, the company continues to invest in research and development in

biorationals.

Biorational products have long been used extensively in horticulture and,

though at present the majority of Biorational usage continues to be under

protected conditions (e.g. salads, tomatoes, cucurbits, peppers, etc.) and in

the speciality crops sector (e.g. stone fruits, citrus, vines), the development

of Biorational sustainable solutions for open field arable crops is also a high

priority for the company.
