Problad

®

: New broad-spectrum biorational fungicide

One product that has successfully come through the development process

for Certis is Problad

®

, a novel, broad-spectrum biorational fungicide for use

in both protected and open field cropping from CEV in Portugal.

Registration is expected in the Netherlands in 2022 with other Member

States to follow. A new active substance of natural origin (formed during the

germination process in sweet lupins,

Lupinus albus

, and extracted from the

germinated seeds) and a new fungicide class FRAC BM01, it has a unique,

multiple mode of action and is exempt from Maximum Residue Level (MRL).

A short Pre-harvest interval is expected, which makes Problad a flexible

partner and valuable tool to reduce plant protection residues in the harvested

produce. With no known cross resistance to other fungicide classes, it is also

an important new tool for sustainable fungicide resistance management.

The active substance is non-toxic, readily biodegradable and submitted

as a low-risk substance at EU level. It has no negative effect on humans,

mammals, bees, beneficials nor other non-target organisms and is fully IPM

compatible. It is highly effective against many plant pathogens like

Botrytis

,

Powdery Mildew,

Monilia

and rust and authorization is initially expected for

use in tomato, strawberry, vines, stone fruit and rice. A range of other crops

will be added at a second stage.
