The Biorationals Innovation Team of dedicated experts was established in
2020 with the specific aim of creating a bigger pipeline for the company,
bringing new, innovative Biorational products to the sales teams as
efficiently as possible. It seeks new candidate bioproducts and compounds
to match the technical and commercial needs of the crop teams across the
company and runs a streamlined program of early-stage technical checks
and screening of the candidate products under controlled conditions at
the Biorationals Research Centre in Nimes, France, to check performance
on key targets. Products in screening from R&D partners around the world
currently include enzymes from Denmark, biotech products from Italy and
New Zealand as well as Chinese biorational compounds that have, in some
cases, been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Successful
candidates progress to the field trials program, which will in 2022 test around
30 products against various key target pests and diseases. Approximately
one third of these are being tested for a second season following successful
results last year. In total about 120 trials across all crops, countries and
targets are planned in 2022. The decision on whether to continue investing
in the product with further development is normally taken after the second
year. Where appropriate, preparation for registration will follow with a view
to bringing valuable Biorational products to market.
