From an early start in Potato in Europe to Sunflower and Soybean in
Ukraine and now to the world
The metobromuron active ingredient was acquired by Belchim in 2000 and
was successfully listed on the EU Annex I in 2014 for 10 years. The first launch
was Proman
®
in potato in several European countries in 2016. The second
important step was the extension of use to soybean and sunflower in 2018
in several countries across Europe. Then, metobromuron was launched in
Ukraine in 2019 and the focus is now to extend its market footprint to Africa,
Middle East and the Americas.
As a result, Belchim is currently selling metobromuron in sunflower, potato,
soybean and tobacco in the European Union and is planning to launch
it in cotton. In the rest of the world crops targeted in the short term are
soybean, sunflower, corn, potato, tobacco and cotton. In the medium-term
the intention is to extend its use to vicia bean and sugarcane (screening trials
are ongoing).
