As mentioned previously, the high reproductive capacity of mites makes the
ability to control the different stages of development of the mites critical.
Both milbemectin and tebufenpyrad are also strong in this important feature
as they are highly effective on all mite stages. With activity on eggs, larvae,
nymphs and adults, the two products can control infection throughout the
plant growing cycle, which brings huge flexibility to the timing of application
for the grower.
Another important feature of Shirudo is its long-lasting effect. From trials on
Panonicus citri
it is clear that it can control mites perfectly over a long period
during the season in different weather conditions. This excellent activity can
also be seen from the range of temperatures across which Shirudo provides
mite control without its efficacy being affected. This confirms that Shirudo is
active and performs well in a wide range of conditions and can be applied in
different situations and timings throughout the season.
In addition, Shirudo’s good knock down effect is in line with that of
Milbeknock. The milbemectin based product is recognized for its excellent
fast activity: already just 12 hours after application, mites stop moving and
feeding on the leaves. This very fast action leads to a substantial weakening
of the mites after three days and their death within five days after treatment.
For both molecules, this contributes to fast action and quick control from
the very first stage of the infestation.
Milbeknock is well known for having one of the best beneficials profiles
among acaricides due to the natural origin of milbemectin. This led to its
approval in organic farming in some countries around the world. Shirudo is
also proven to be safe for the beneficial insects widely present in orchards and
its combination with Milbeknock makes the Belchim spray program against
mites a sustainable and beneficial-friendly solution for crop management.
